At first glance, you might think a stay at The Maker Hotel is simply a night away in a nice hotel a few hours from the hum of New York City. Those who know, know, that from the moment you take that first step through the doors of this enchanting 11-bedder, it’s an experience that’s felt in every sense. Not least, scent.
The Maker may have started its life as a hotel but owners Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg, always had bigger plans. In what became an ode to their long-time obsession with both travel and scent, the pair - who are also behind the beauty brand Fresh - developed a line of incredibly sexy, layered fragrances inspired by stories from their beloved hotel.
From fragrance cocktail pairings to indulgent themed rooms with matching scents, and even a fragrance wardrobe for guests to explore and spritz Glazman’s personal collection, we sent TikTok sensation Selina Yang to experience (and sniff!) every moody little corner of the hotel for us. Here’s how her 24 hours played out…

12.30pm – Early Arrival
“I arrived three hours before check in because I knew The Maker was situated in the hub of where all the antique furniture and vintage clothing stores were.
The moment I stepped foot in the hotel I was already feeling nostalgic and sad that I would eventually have to leave.”
3.30pm – Official Check-In
“I stayed in the Artist Room and it’s inspired me to completely re-model my apartment after it.
“I had four fragrances left for me in my room. Dream, Fire, Lover and Wild. They all have very different scent profiles and are all very unique in their pairings, but the surprising thing is that they are all super wearable. Honestly, it’s hard to decide which is my favourite!”
4.30pm – Hotel Tour
“I was in complete awe. Every single detail of the hotel is considered with care. Down to the original tiles that were individually placed to form a pattern, to the wall paper in each room hand stenciled and designed by different artists. Each scent was also inspired by different areas of the hotel.
“The hotel had a really cool concept of having a fragrance library on the third floor. The creator not only included the entire range of The Maker fragrances but also included all their favourite scents from other lines as part of the collection. It was such a fun and niche idea!”

“When I think of cocktails designed after the fragrance, I think oh, this scent has notes of vanilla and cinnamon so therefore, the cocktail would simply have the same ingredients! However, there was so much more thought behind each creation. The cocktails were created after not only the key ingredients but the stories it tells, the feelings it evokes."
7pm – Dinner, The Conservatory
“I loved the roasted honey glazed carrots on a bed of ricotta with a side of prosciutto. The pasta was also amazing. It was an agnolotti filled with potato and wild mushrooms.”

“Each room was designed to have its own candle pairing. The candle in the Artist room was super fresh and citrusy (one of my favourite scents). I now have it in my bedroom and every time it’s lit I am reminded of my stay at The Maker.”
9am – The ‘Eye-Opener’
“The first thing I did was drink the coffee left in a thermos hung outside my room. It was accompanied by these delicious oat slices and a copy of The New Yorker.
“I’ve been recently loving no tech mornings. Sleeping with my phone outside my bedroom and not checking it the first thing has made me take my time in being present when going through my morning routine.
“My beauty look for the day was minimal, clean skin with Dr. Jart+ colour correcting cream mixed with sunscreen as the base and a simple red lip.”

10am – Breakfast
“I had breakfast at the cafe. My go-to breakfast is half an everything bagel with tomato, cream cheese, smoked salmon, onion and capers. The other half I have a cinnamon raison bagel with peanut butter and honey. However, at the hotel I had to try their pistachio croissant (so good!).”
12.30pm – Check-Out
“Before I left, I spritzed the Dream perfume. I’ve been wearing it everyday since leaving the hotel. I didn’t know this about myself until now, but I love smelling like delicious Christmas cookie.”
