It’s hard to know if it was Troye Sivan’s visit to HQ or Morphe’s new Huephoric Blush responsible for our flushes this week. Besides that, we’re still deep in our glittery, shimmery beauty era, with Half Magic’s one-swipe, twinkly shadows and liners getting a serious workout (‘Blushing Lizard’ in particular). And I couldn’t help but notice all the Dyson deliveries on desks – it’s a good thing we’ve recently welcomed some new (and seriously good) salon haircare brands to our shelves.
Here’s all the intel from the MECCA group chat…
Think of haircare like skincare
You have a morning and evening skincare routine, so imagine what might happen if you took the same approach to your hair? One team member recently revealed she spent 45 minutes on Saturday night giving herself a hair facial with the Act+Acre Scalp Gua Sha Tool and Aveda’s Invati Ultra Advanced™ Scalp Revitalising Serum. Another uses the Hair by Sam McKnight Cool Curls Refresh & Revive Mist like they use their face mist, to bring curls back to life with a cocktail of hydrating ingredients. “GOOP’s scalp scrub ‘til I die,” said another. IYKYK.
Personally, I’ve fallen for Kérastase all over again since rediscovering the Elixir Ultime Original Hair Oil. It’s the only hair oil I have ever tried that doesn’t weigh down my fine hair. There’s a trick – rub the product between the palms of your hands for a few seconds before running through your hair. Kérastase’s Nutritive 8HR Night Hair Serum works like a high-powered night cream for your hair. Every other night, I apply one pump to my mid-lengths and 1 pump to my ends, brushing through with the La Bonne Brosse N.02 brush. In the morning, your hair is somehow infinitely more hydrated and shiny – yet the oil itself leaves no trace…
This foundation is also more like skincare...
If you love luminous, dewy makeup but have a hard time making your base last until 5pm, then By Terry’s newest launch might be what you’re missing. The Parisian beauty brand has just released their Brightening CC Foundation, and it’s everything fans of sheer, glowy skin could possibly want. It has the light-reflecting properties of the OG CC serum, the coverage of a light foundation and skincare ingredients you’d find in a powerful serum: Japanese rose extract, niacinamide, aloe vera, shea butter and more. Just brush up your brows, swipe on your blush, and you’re done.
And, so is this blush!
Every day I wake up and fall in love with another blush. The newest to hit my cheeks is Kosas’ Blush is Life, which originally caught my eye with its pretty, swirled tones, but won me over with the finish: it’s a powder but it melts into the skin like the silkiest cream. As you build the pigment, you get a smoothing, blurring effect – the addition of skincare ingredients squalane and hyaluronic acid not only hydrate but have a way of making everything look better.
Decor or designer candles?
Can’t afford new art? Neither. A candle that doubles as décor has a way of lifting the ambience of an entire room. All of Sir Paul Smith’s home fragrances are works of art; the two-toned glass vessels catch the light just so and once burned make a gorgeous vase or plant pot. Try his Storyteller Candle if you’re into amber, woods and binge-watching Netflix rather than going out. Floral Street’s Vanilla Bloom Candle always catches me off guard with its sunny yellow vessel and crispy vanilla pastry scent (even when unlit) as I walk past it in my hallway. If you want people to comment on your home scent, may I suggest D.S. & DURGA’s Big Sur After Rain Candle for its unusual yet intoxicating ‘wet pavement’ scent. Vyrao’s Rose Marie Candle is like a bunch of fresh, slightly green roses in a sleek sculptural vessel that’s been supercharged by the brand’s ‘quantum energist’ for good vibes at all times.
Man, he’ll love these
Consider this your gentle reminder that Father’s Day is approaching – and that while Dad will likely tell you he doesn’t need anything, he absolutely deserves something. Why not make it a little luxury for his beard or the fragrance he never knew he needed but won’t be able to stop spritzing? Our edit has everything he needs to build his beauty kit (and build your Beauty Loop points!).
