But just because the Gregorian calendar is winding down, doesn’t mean we are. With new stores to open across the country, gifts to give, faces to paint and holidays to celebrate, we’re continuing to bring you the best in new beauty, to the last drop. Though I can’t promise that this will be the very last (the NDA I signed will end my sentence there), these are my top picks from the new beauty landing at MECCA today.
ATTENTION MINI CANDLE COLLECTORS
It’s my favourite time of the year: when all my favourite fragrance brands bring their most iconic home scents to life in sets of minis that are;
A: perfect for apartment living (I love my 5kg Diptyque Baies Candle and have my eye on the new Ambre varietal, but wonder if I should be getting body corporate approval before burning and scenting my entire boutique block of eight). Byredo La Mini Selection, complete with my three favourites - Bibliotheque, Tree House and Burning Rose - I’m looking at you.
B: fiscally friendlier, often shaving $20-$30 off the price versus picking them up individually at any other time of year (if you’re a ‘girl’ mathematician like me, this means you can add a lip balm to your cart for what is essentially “free”).
C: the ultimate solution to indecisive, beauty-obsessed Librans like me who can’t choose favourites and like to mix it up (Sag rising; guilty!).
And D: are often wrapped in extra beautiful, limited-edition artwork, like Flamingo Estate’s Mini Three Sisters Set, or Tsu Lange Yor’s Aromatic Candle Art Set, with the work of Jane Guthleben.
GOOD HAIR, HOT OR NOT
When I use my Dyson hair tools, I get an extra three days between washes. I know they’re the front runners in hair tech… but that’s just pure witchcraft. The good, Glinda kind, of course. Speaking of, Dyson have dropped their wet-to-dry Airstrait™ Straightener in Strawberry Bronze , a perfect pink we know is going to be, well, popular. Watch the Airstrait™ in action and you’ll be blown away; truly. For the blow-dry-then-straighten multi-steppers, this tool will change your life. And I don’t say that lightly.
If you’re going heat-free this summer, scrunch and twist IGK’s new Beach Club Foam into your hair as it air dries. It’ll turn vague frizz, fluff and kink into Victoria’s Secret supermodel-type waves.
THE LANCOME RENAISSANCE
A FEW MORE NOTES
In case you missed it: Glossier’s highly anticipated sequel and three-quel to their smash hit signature scent, You EDP, recently landed at MECCA to great fan fare. There’s You Doux, which I’d describe as the palo-santo-y, more skin-scent-y version of Le Labo Santal 33 (Doux for day, Santal 33 for night would make for a sublime transition), and You Rêve, a nostalgic gourmand, best described as the masterful love child of You and (I say this earnestly and unironically) one of the world’s greatest gourmands, Britney Spears Fantasy.
I’d be remiss not to mention the three new scents from the MAISON MARGIELA Replica collection. Famous for bottling precious memories (Sailing Day, Jazz Club, On A Date… et al), these limited editions take a slightly different approach, reproducing the scents of ‘familiar fantasies’ instead. There’s Soul of the Forest, my personal favourite, which is sweet and woody - it smells like you’re getting the best facial of your life, in a spa that happens to be situated in the middle of a forest. There’s Dancing on the Moon, a soft, sparkly romantic scent, and Flying, too, which is delicate and powdery with a surprising freshness. Even if my nose were blocked, I’d be obsessed with the dark ombre bottles and the silver foil labels.
