But I'm all about the hard-hitting beauty questions, particularly if I'm not the one answering them!
In case you missed the bright orange bottles suddenly popping up everywhere, California-based gentle beauty brand Tower 28 recently made its debut at MECCA.
The brand was created when founder Amy Liu noticed a gap in the market – after 15-plus years working in the beauty industry while battling temperamental skin, she struggled to find a range of high-performance products that didn't exacerbate her eczema or irritate her sensitive skin.
Tower 28 was born in 2019, quickly becoming a renowned ‘safe space for sensitive skin’. To celebrate the brand’s arrival Down Under, MECCA HQ has been enthusiastically spritzing SOS Daily Rescue Spray everywhere (seriously – I overheard a conversation in which it had landed in someone's coffee!).
However, every new beauty launch comes with a wave of ‘decision fatigue’ and a lengthy top-shelf elimination process, so if you're struggling to decide on a first purchase from the range, never fear: we asked Amy herself to share her top three must-have Tower 28 products.
The all-in-one skin mist
"My ride or die is always going to be the SOS Daily Rescue Facial Spray," Amy explains, referring to the aforementioned bright orange bottle. The name comes from the fact that it “has saved my skin… I find it helps calm my skin and keep it clean." With just three ingredients (water, sodium chloride and hypochlorous acid), it acts as a soothing, rebalancing spritz for angry and breakout-prone skin. A true multitasker, it can also be used to prevent body breakouts post-sweat session.
The catch-all mascara
Next up, Amy recommends the MakeWaves Lengthening + Volumizing Mascara: "This particular brush actually has three different bands that connect. Those bristles move as well as the entire wand. They're able to… literally get in and catch every single lash, no matter what your eye shape [is],” she explains. Voluminising, lengthening and sensitive eye-safe, the formula offers near-foolproof buildability – so you can apply multiple coats without nearing spider-lash territory.
The hydrating lip treatment(s)
For lips, it’s a tie between the ShineOn Milky Lip Jelly and the LipSoftie Tinted Lip Treatment. Amy says the Lip Jelly is "much more shiny… it's like a true lip oil/lip gloss that gives you the shine of a lip gloss but the feel of a balm.” For something closer to balm finish, she recommends the LipSoftie Lip Treatment as it’s "not super super thick, but you get a tint of colour and it's still going to help treat your lips.”
