After a six-year hiatus, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is back – and so are the OTT wings, banging beats (a live performance by none other than Cher and BLACKPINK’s Lisa!) and just about every supermodel you can think of, including Gigi and Bella Hadid and OG Angels Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio and Candice Swanepoel. Even Kate Moss strapped on her VS wings for the first time. We’re screaming, crying, throwing up!
But it was Barbara Palvin’s sultry, sculpted glow – created by her Sydney-born, New York-based MUA Tobi Henney, that caught our eye as she stepped off the runway and into a sleek black number for the official after-party; the kind of glow that Henney credits to the army of Charlotte Tilbury beauty in her kit. We had a hunch.
Model Barbara Palvin and makeup artist Tobi Henney
Over the seven years Palvin and Henney have been working together, the duo has developed a playbook of signature looks they draw on for big events like this – which is heavily VS bombshell coded (as expected!): “This usually involves a light base and a soft contour and brown tones on the eyes and a cool brown or rose lip liner and lip to match,” Henney told MECCA ahead of the show.
Start with skin prep
As for the exact products she used to anchor Palvin’s post-show beauty look? Henney’s main focus was to give the skin what it needs “as this is the base and the foundation of the look,” she explains, adding, “I love to create flawless skin that looks natural and healthy.”
The secret weapons: Charlotte’s Magic Serum Crystal Elixir and Charlotte's Magic Cream™.
An Angel-worthy complexion
For the glowiest, bronziest VS base, Henney combined the Wonderglow illuminating primer with Hollywood Flawless Filter in shade ‘4.5’, followed by the new Unreal Skin Sheer Glow Tint Hydrating Foundation Stick in shade ‘6’ wherever extra coverage was needed.
Next, she added dimension and “lots of highlighting to create the lit-from-within glow” using the Hollywood Contour Wand and the Beauty Light Wand in shade ‘Spotlight’.
Perfect with powder
Henney reveals she can’t live without the Charlotte Tilbury Filmstar Bronze & Glow Contour Palette: “I have been using this to softly contour Barbara's cheeks, temple and jawline for years,” she reveals. “I have also used Airbrush Flawless Finish Powder for many years, and I set Barbara's makeup at the end of the glam and I make sure she has this powder with her in her bag for touch-ups!” the MUA adds.
Mesmerising eyes
Henney completed Palvin’s after-dark glam with a fittingly smoky winged shadow, using Charlotte’s Luxury Palette in ‘The Rock Chick’ plus Rock 'N' Kohl in ‘Bedroom Black’ around the rims of the eyes. A few coats of the new Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara was applied to top and bottom lashes. And there’s one more trade secret Henney swears by to make the eyes really pop: “Always use whitening eye drops for big events,” she advises. “They make your eyes look crystal clear and give that ‘more awake’ look.”
The finishing touches
Of course, Pillow Talk Lip & Cheek Glow in ‘Colour of Dreams’ is one of the pair’s staple lipstick shades for a beautiful natural makeup look. “I think everyone should try this shade as it’s so stunning on everyone,” Henney explains.
Finally, to ensure Palvin’s look stayed put all night, Henney finished with the much-loved Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Filter Setting Spray: “This helps your makeup have more longevity and it keeps everything in place for longer,” explains Henney. In addition, the ultra-fine formula adds a veil of luminous hydration to ensure the skin is lit up in all the right areas for a flawless glow.
Reflecting on her looks for Palvin, Henney reveals an interesting trend prediction: “I actually think the VS-style makeup – metallic eyeshadows and natural skin will have a comeback!”
It’s the Charlotte Tilbury look to a tee – and you can get it at MECCA.
