Glossier: it’s the brand that needs no introduction – but here’s a quick recap for those who may be out of the loop. It all starts with the brand’s founder. Emily Weiss, and her beloved beauty website, Into The Gloss. From those roots of endlessly reviewing, testing and trying new and cult-loved beauty - and Top Shelf-ing the most fascinating people in the world - the idea to start an all-encompassing, crowd-curated beauty brand was born.
Debuting in 2014 with four products which catapulted to viral status, Glossier also had the elusive appeal of being hard to nab for us Down Under. The brand elicits the type of must-have hysteria where you beg your cousin’s best friend’s sister to bring you back a few tubes of Balm Dotcom while they're in LA without shame.
Now, 10 years on, Glossier has finally landed at MECCA – and HQ was just a little bit excited to try their cult-favourite formulas.
Thornton tries Futuredew Facial Oil-Serum Hybrid
Thornton, our Senior Operations Manager, is a Glossier first-timer and was a beacon of radiance after sampling Futuredew, an oil-serum hybrid that gives skin a hydrating boost.
“Being an oil-based product, I was a touch hesitant about trying Futuredew,” explains Thornton. “But the moment I felt the product touch my skin, my mind was changed! It absorbed instantly and made my skin feel hydrated, while also giving me this beautiful glow.”
Thornton recommends Futuredew for those with oily or combination skin, as it delivers long-lasting luminosity with a super lightweight consistency and no ‘disco ball’ shine.
Zahira tries Balm Dotcom Lip Balm and Skin Salve in ‘Wild Fig’
Balm Dotcom nourishes and moisturises thirsty, parched lips with lanolin, beeswax and castor seed oil, resulting in a conditioning balm that leaves no sticky residue. Our Graduate, Zahira, proclaims: “It’s the perfect everyday balm.”
Available in both tinted and untinted forms, it’s also legitimately delicious with flavours like ‘Mango’, ‘Coconut’ and ‘Strawberry’.
Zahira agreed that Balm Dotcom in ‘Wild Fig’ is almost good enough to eat. “It was almost a crime, it smelled so good – and the finish on the lips was just visible enough that it would give that little ‘pop’ without committing to a full lip colour.”
Zama tries Cloud Paint Gel Cream Blush in ‘Eve’ and Stretch Fluid Foundation for Buildable Coverage in ‘Medium Deep 1’
Our Senior Strategy Manager, Zama, is a longtime follower of Glossier and “loves how accessible the brand is” with its no-fuss, all-fun approach to makeup and skincare.
Zama tried the Stretch Fluid Foundation – a gel-cream base that melts into the skin for a flawless, hydrated finish – and Cloud Paint in ‘Eve’, a liquid blush in a mulberry hue.
The verdict on this duo? A quick, easy and reliable everyday go-to and a shortcut to flawless skin. Zama also admits this duo makes for the ultimate "date night or girl’s night out" makeup.
Cat, our Head of Brand Experience and Special Projects, is quite frankly relieved she no longer needs to keep Glossier’s arrival at MECCA a secret. “I’m a big gossip but managed to keep the news quiet from my family and friends – which was a pretty big feat,” she reveals.
Cat was also relieved to find a lipstick that does the work of a lip balm, gloss and tint in one with Ultralip – specifically in the shade ‘Coupe’ (a bright blood orange hue).
“It glides on like a dream and it’s really nourishing,” she says.
“It’s perfect during winter when my lips are dry and you can layer the colour for impact.”
