Words by Kerri Gordon

Get up close and personal with the biggest names in beauty and media – from global brand founders to boundary-breaking creatives, stars of the screen (and everyone in-between).

Skincare brand Tatcha has found unwavering success by drawing inspiration from traditional Japanese beauty rituals and applying them to modern skin concerns through never-been-done-before formulations. Similarly, the brand’s Global Director of Artistry, Daniel Martin, approaches makeup in a way that epitomises this rendezvous of old and new, looking to the allure of ‘90s supermodels for visual inspiration while applying a laser-focused, skin-first technique.

It’s precisely this that has garnered Daniel’s A-list client roster, which includes Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, everyone’s favourite Mean Girl, Rachel McAdams, comedy queens Maya Rudolph and Ali Wong, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, whose makeup Daniel famously applied on her televised-to-1.9-billion-people wedding day.

In celebration of the launch of Tatcha’s The Matcha Cleanse, a purifying gel cleanser designed to balance and prime the skin, helping to minimise makeup shine and slip, Daniel joined us In The Chair at Soma Byron Bay (you might recognise the beautiful yoga dome from HBO’s Nine Perfect Strangers). Hit play as he shares his tips for pro-looking makeup, and spills the (matcha) tea on confessions made from his makeup chair.
