Meet Tammy Kanat
MECCA’s 2019 NGV Holiday Artist Collaboration
A former jewellery designer, Tammy embarked on her weaving journey in 2011. She sees weaving as an ever evolving and timeless art form and an enchanting way to share the impact of her surroundings.
Throughout her career, Kanat has explored the representation of natural forms in tapestry – the concentric circles recall cut agate, living coral and aerial landscape scenes. Her work is also informed by an interest in colour theory, rare Japanese colour dictionaries, and the work of Bauhaus textile artist Gunta Stolz and modernist artists such as Sonia Delaunay.
