In 1960s Paris, neighbouring their original boutique at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, Diptyque’s three founders - travellers and aesthetes Desmond Knox-Leet, Yves Coueslant and Christiane Gautrot - would saunter into the Orphéon, a dimly light, effervescent jazz club that once heaved with the city’s creatives and bohemians.
It had a powerful ambiance and aroma; jasmine and powder of the perfume and makeup the women would wear; burnished wood of the bar’s interior; plumes of tobacco smoke; and juniper of the gin that once flowed. As an ode to the bar, whose blue mosaic pillar still stands at 34 Saint-Germain, Diptyque created Orphéon EDP - an olfactory time capsule that brings the allure, buzz and memory of the bar to the current day.
To take it a step further, we’ve partnered with Andrew McConnell’s Trader House collective and Broadsheet to develop a series of limited-edition cocktails that celebrate the scent, and transport you to 1960s Paris. Crafted by Trader House Bar Manager Lachlan Bentley, who was inspired by the EDP’s olfactory notes of juniper, tonka, jasmine and cedarwood, the exclusive cocktails are available to enjoy from now until April 6 at Cutler, Apollo Inn, Marion, Cumulus and Bar Miette.
You’ll receive a sample of Orphéon EDP with every cocktail, as well as a tightly curated jazz playlist that lets you take the essence of the Orphéon home (or to your car, morning run, or desk job).
