Pamela Anderson and two models pictured at Fashion Week

Words by Cjay Aksoyoglu

New York, London, Milan and Paris Spring-Summer 2024 Fashion Weeks have all officially wrapped up, and we’re seeing some major trends from A-listers and ‘It girls’. Think: all things bows, matte lipstick and mermaid hair. Here’s a peek at what’s to come on the beauty horizon...

Skin so glowy it's almost holographic

Luminous, pared-back skin is still very much in. To get the same glossy cheekbones we saw at shows like Prada and Christopher Esber’s Paris Fashion Week debut, it’s all about skin prep and minimal makeup. At London Fashion Week, 111Skin’s Rose Gold Brightening Mask and Cryo De-Puffing Eye Masks were the secret to glazed skin at Erdem, while at Molly Goddard it was all things Emma Lewisham.

Emilia Wickstead mixed Chantecaille’s Sheer Glow Rose Face Tint with the Future Skin foundation for a fresh look that lets your natural freckles peep through.

Off the runway, nobody echoed the ‘all about skin’ mantra more than Pamela Anderson, who was spotted makeup-free in the front row during Paris Fashion Week at Victoria Beckham, Vivienne Westwood and The Row, showing us that glowing skin is often all the glam you need!

Perfectly imperfect eyeliner

If you don’t have the steadiest hand for eyeliner, there’s good news for you this season: perfectionism is out and drawing outside the lines is in. Take Khaite's New York Fashion Week graphic eye look by legendary makeup artist Diane Kendal, who used the NARS High-Pigment Longwear Eyeliner in 'Via Veneto' to draw horizontal lines from the lower brow bone to the outer edge of the brows. A graphic eye is easy to master and yours to experiment with as you please!

Pull out the pastels! This season we’re taking inspiration from the runway at Milan Fashion Week, where Versace showcased pistachio, blue and pink pastel eye looks layered with loads of ’60s-esque mascara. Meanwhile, Prada served pops of orange swiped across the lids with a chic, glossy finish; recreate the look using the MECCA MAX Zoom Shadow Stick Matte in 'Terracotta' or the Violette_FR Yeux Paint Matte in 'Nuage de Lilas'.

The blush on everyone's cheeks

PSA: the blush trend isn’t going anywhere. From Kendall Jenner’s tomato-red cheeks on the Schiaparelli runway to the front rows of pretty much every show, this season has proven to be a cheeky one. Case in point? Suki Waterhouse at JW Anderson in London, Kylie Jenner at Dolce & Gabbana in Milan and Zendaya at Louis Vuitton in Paris – each had beauty looks centred around blushed, defined cheekbones.

Backstage at Emilia Wickstead’s London Fashion Week show, makeup artist Petros Petrohilos showed how to master the look: simply blend Chantecaille’s Liquid Lumière in ‘Luster’ and Cheek Gelée in ‘Vibrant’ on the highest part of your cheekbones.

Mermaidcore is still afloat

The ‘mermaidcore’ trend we’ve seen all over TikTok is here to stay – and it’s all about effortless, beachy hair you’d only achieve after a day of swimming somewhere along the French Riviera. At Paris Fashion Week, we spotted Sydney Sweeney at Miu Miu with long, mermaid-y waves and bare skin with a nude matte lip, while at Dior, Alexa Chung kept it simple with undone waves, brushed-up brows and a soft, rosy blush.

Get the look using the ghd Soft Curl Tong Hair CurlerHair by Sam McKnight's Cool Girl Barely There Texture Mist and Sachajuan's Ocean Mist.

Bows, braids and ballet

That isn’t the only ‘core’ on the planet – ‘balletcore’ is everywhere, both on and off the runway. Whilst ALAÏA’s embellished Mary Janes and Miu Miu’s satin ballerinas have proven to be a street style staple, so too have the bows and braids that remind us of our dance lessons back in the day – and celebrities are getting around the trend, too.

In Paris, we saw Hailey Bieber’s current ‘soft girl’ aesthetic in half-up, half-down hair secured with a bow barrette, Emma Chamberlain at Miu Miu with braided piggy tails lined with velvet bow ribbons and Camila Morrone’s big bow moment at Chanel, to name a few.

To get the look, Sam McKnight (the man responsible for many of the backstage hairdos we’ve seen across SS24 runways) uses plenty of Modern Hairspray and Dressed to Kill Define & Frizz Creme when creating a sleek, polished finish for any braided look.

A pop of red

Red has been a runway staple for a few seasons now. This season, it’s all about just a pop of red. Even The Row, known for their neutrals and minimalism, featured surprising pops of red throughout their SS24 show in Paris.

If you noticed Sofia Richie’s peeping red turtleneck at Prada, Kaia Gerber’s grey suit with red-lensed sunglasses at The Row or Kendall Jenner’s crimson bag and kitten heels at Gucci this season, then you get the gist when it comes to adding an unexpected crimson accent to your look. Saint Laurent also proved that red is the colour of the season with their models sporting bold red lips on the Paris Fashion Week runway.

Pair something red from your wardrobe with Yves Saint Laurent’s Rouge Volupte Shine in 'No. 127' or Kosas' Wet Lip Oil Plumping Treatment Gloss in 'Jaws' to get in on the trend.

A sparkle in your eye

Thanks to Sex Education star Mimi Keene at JW Anderson’s London Fashion Week show and Rose Inc founder Rosie Huntington-Whiteley at Dolce & Gabbana in Milan, we’re witnessing the rise of the eye highlight trend. Probably one of the easiest beauty trends to carry from the SS24 runways into real life, applying a shimmery eyeshadow to the very inner corners of the eyes is the classic trick to embellish any fresh-faced look.

For a subtle shimmer, try MECCA MAX's Single Eyeshadow in 'Y2K', or for some eye-catching sparkle, opt for Hourglass' Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow in the shade 'Foil' to recreate the look.
