With our inaugural commission piece — by world-leading Mexican architect Tatiana Bilbao — on track to be unveiled as part of an exclusive NGV exhibition in October this year, we are so thrilled to be able to give you a first look at how the work is coming along.
In this video, Bilbao shares an update on the creation of her large-scale installation from her studio in Mexico City. A physical expression of her aim to free architecture from the conventions and canon of the of the 20th century, Bilbao and her team combine textiles with architectural structure, while drawing on her studio’s use of collage, sketching and model making.
The MECCA x NGV Women in Design Commission exhibition is opened Saturday October 6, 2022, featuring Bilbao’s inaugural commission.
