Gucci Westman’s Easy, Everyday Makeup Routine

The Westman Atelier founder and celebrity makeup artist knew it would be a challenge to formulate a traditional matte lipstick that’s both hydrating and incredibly lightweight; she mastered the lip palette, but its stick counterpart required unprecedented innovation. But before the lips, comes the perfect face. For Gucci, a good everyday beauty routine is one that amplifies a ‘no-makeup makeup’ look; it’s natural, vibrant and versatile.
No two days are the same for Gucci, from creating red-carpet looks (most recently Nicole Kidman at the Met Gala) to celebrating family milestones, travelling for work and keeping the wheels spinning at Westman Atelier. Her everyday beauty routine needs to be efficient and reliable.
Here, Gucci tells The MECCA Memo all about the routine that takes her through almost 365 days of the year, and how Lip Suede Matte Lipstick fits in.
Gucci’s routine “always begins with cold water,” and Westman Atelier’s Skin Activator to boost and brighten the skin. She follows with lightweight coverage via Westman Atelier Vital Skincare Complexion Drops or the Vital Skin Foundation & Concealer Stick, sometimes combining both to create a custom finish.

Next up is bringing dimension to the face. “I like to be warmer, so I then use either Liquid Super Loaded Tint, Super Loaded Tinted Highlighter or Beauty Butter Bronzer depending on the humidity,” Gucci says, adding, “I also love using Face Trace in ‘Truffle’ to warm up my skin, especially this time of year [northern hemisphere summer], where I like to fake having a sunkissed appearance.”
Then, she applies a pop of colour on the cheeks with the Baby Cheeks Blush Stick and grooms her eyebrows.

To prep the lips, Gucci recommends gently exfoliating with a warm towel, followed by a dab of lip balm before you sweep your lipstick on. She completes her everyday makeup look with Westman Atelier’s Lip Suede Matte Lipstick in either ‘Piqué’ – a taupe nude – or her current favourite, the blush-toned ‘Je Rêve’. “It is the perfect shade for every day,” she says.

Working as a makeup artist for over 25 years with A-list clients including Gwyneth Paltrow, Anne Hathaway and Jennifer Aniston, Gucci has used more lipsticks than most – and often found herself in search of illusive shades, resulting in mixing her own custom pigments.

Developing her own collection was an opportunity to curate the 10 shades she reaches for most – a series of nudes, reds, pinks and berries – and in the process create the ultimate ‘capsule wardrobe’ for your lips. “The pigment is vivid and does not move, feather or smudge,” she says of the Lip Suede Matte Lipsticks.
Notably, the formula follows Westman Atelier’s skincare approach to makeup, with each lipstick loaded with peptides and an antioxidant-rich blend of vitamin C and E to leave lips plump and smooth.
Plus, there’s “three types of hyaluronic acids at different molecular weights that enter the dermis and attract hydration, the meadowfoam extract seals in the hydration and kaolin clay that prevents feathering and smudging and provides that velvety matte finish.” .
And the secret to that hydrated feeling that’s so difficult to achieve in a long-wearing matte formula?

“We replaced part of the spherical powders which would absorb the formulation, and then they continue to absorb the moisture from your lips, which is why you feel the uncomfortable feeling,” Gucci explains.
Instead, the lipsticks feature Hydro Suede Technology – a moisture-locking system with a matte finish that nourishes your lips.
