‘Glass Skin’ is Having a Moment: Your Guide To The K-Beauty Trend

The final boss of bouncy, radiant skin, the term ‘glass skin’ originates from the Korean phrase yuri pibu.

It's more than just moisturiser – the right glass skin routine should give you an airbrushed sheen; a luminosity not dissimilar to something you'd see in a Barbie movie (both the original animated flicks like Fairtytopia and Margot Robbie in the live-action version).

Loved for its range of radiance-boosting, plant-derived products, Glow Recipe is a brand with roots firmly planted in Korean skincare philosophies. As Co-Founder Christine Chang explained in an interview for The MECCA Memo, “Korean women consider translucent, beautiful, lit-from-within [skin] as their beauty ideal.”

While makeup can work faux-glow wonders, real glass skin puts the focus on what's underneath. It's not necessarily about achieving blemish-free perfection but nourished skin that’s prepped to drink up all the hydration. The best news? It doesn’t require a 10-step routine. Instead, the secret lies in a handful of results-driven products.

Prep for glow

A member of skincare’s Big Three, the right toner can set your skin up for success. For a springy base, start with the formula that best suits you. If you have normal or dry skin, Glow Recipe's Cloudberry Essence Toner delivers a hydrating boost of vitamin C-infused goodness. It's gentle enough for sensitive types and smells like a fruit salad.

And if your skin is oily or acne-prone, Glow Recipe's Watermelon Glow PHA+BHA Pore-Tight Toner helps softly exfoliate and decongest without drying.

Select a serum

An integral step in the quest for glass skin, a hard-working serum acts as the juicy layer between toner and moisturiser. Glow Recipe is known for its Watermelon Glow™ Niacinamide Hue Drops and Dew Drops – multiuse formulas that can bronze, hydrate, brighten and/or even out the skin, depending on which one you choose (and how you use it).

Niacinamide is the key ingredient in both, but the Hue Drops have the added warmth of gold and bronze pearls, while the transparent Dew Drops give that classic fresh-faced look. Use a layer on its own for maximum product potency, or mix a couple of drops into your moisturiser for an extra boost.

A comprehensive remedy for breakout-prone skin, the brand’s new Blackberry Retinol Blemish Serum helps hydrate, unclog pores and smooth texture. Use it as a calming second step on angry skin days.

Lock in hydration

For a sheen that lasts all day, finish with a layer of plumping moisturiser. Glow Recipe’s Watermelon Glow™ Pink Juice formula blends hyaluronic acid and watermelon extract for an instantly cooling, glassy effect.

And remember, healthy skin – and the radiance that comes with it – is holistic. Drink plenty of water, get the right amount of sleep and up your intake of healthy fats, fruits and vegetables. You’ll be dewy in no time.
