After all, her brand’s bestseller is named ‘Jet Lag’ for a reason. So, we tapped Ireland to share the in-flight routine she’s mastered over the years (plus her bonus tips for great skin while you’re away from home!).
Save this one for your next trip, and all that’s left is the packing…
In-flight checklist
First, Ireland sets the mood with “a calming playlist I have going during takeoff. I love to get settled in, and make my area feel cosy,” she tells The MECCA Memo. “I typically do my skincare steps first, and then get comfortable with socks, my eye mask and a pillow.”
That skincare routine starts like any other – with cleansing: “I aim to board with clean skin or minimal makeup. Once on-board, I use a simple water wipe to clean my skin,” Ireland says.
Next, it’s all about combating dry cabin air with a Summer Fridays staple: “I apply our Jet Lag Mask all over, particularly on any dry areas. This product doesn't need to be rinsed off, and works to keep skin hydrated even while on super-drying flights. I also use it as a hand cream.”
Another carry-on staple? Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm in ‘Sweet Mint’.
“Its buttery texture feels so good while in-flight, and the mint is so refreshing!” she explains, adding, “For sleep, I use a silk sleep mask, which is ideal for both resting and for keeping my eye area protected. If it's an evening flight, I will add magnesium powder to hot water and this helps me rest.”
(Editor’s note: Team MECCA are fans of Slip masks – including this MECCA exclusive, designed to keep your lash extensions intact.)
When that tell-tale announcement comes over the loudspeaker, it’s time for a touch-up: “Once we’re ready to land, I apply a small amount of our Sheer Skin Tint for light coverage – it's just enough for a beauty pick-me-up! I'll also use one of our Lip Butter Balms with a sheer colour, like ‘Poppy’ or ‘Vanilla Beige’, to give me a little boost.”
Yes, you read that right – Ireland carries multiple Lip Butter Balms at a time: “There’s something about having a lip balm in every purse, bag, car, desk, nightstand, and beyond that feels so satisfying!”
Skin tips for frequent flyers
Ireland is all about consistency, explaining that having a routine “keeps me calm before every flight. Typically, I stay away from trying new products while away from home.”
While travelling, she focuses on “internal” skin support as well as skincare. “I aim to drink a lot of water in-flight and during my travels. I move my body daily and pack my supplements. I also love a hydration packet!
“Of course, I also stay on top of my normal morning and evening skincare routine, with a lot of hydrating products,” she adds.
That includes Summer Fridays’ Super Amino Gel Cleanser, Heavenly Sixteen™ All-In-One Face Oil, Jet Lag Skin Soothing Hydration Mist and Dream Oasis Deep Hydration Serum – and Lip Butter Balm, of course!
