When HBO’s Euphoria streamed in the June of 2019, no one could have anticipated the impact Makeup Head Donni Davy’s sparkle-forward artistry would have on the world. With the moniker ‘Euphoria makeup’, neon colour, graphic liner, iridescent shimmer and glimmering gems paired with a ‘partied-in' complexion became the welcome circuit breaker to a rapid-growing no-makeup makeup movement.
As the show’s second season began production in 2021, so too did Half Magic, a makeup line co-founded by Donni and Euphoria production company, A24 Films. This partnership gives Half Magic a totally original point of view, with a filmic focus on light, creativity, colour and of course, sparkle.
On a sunny day in Los Angeles, Donni graciously gave us a tour of her inspiringly archival home studio (clock the Emmy!), before taking us to the West Hollywood home base of A24 Films, where Oscar-winning films (and now, glitter liners) are made.
